Title: Power Steering whats the Pressure Switch Post by ChrisF on Apr 26th, 2008, 7:07pm I recently took my 2.3 into get an MOT and it failed. Apparently someone has replaced the pressure switch with a bolt and it is leaking fluid, they said that the bolt in itself is not enough to fail it on but a leak is so I've got to fix it. My question is, as it has had the bolt in place for at least six months, since I got the car, would it do any harm to do whatever is neccessary to fix the leak and carry on or is it neccessary to buy a new pressure switch for it. I must admit I have noticed a bit of a leak but I put down to just wear and tear it has only done about half the container. |

Title: Re: Power Steering whats the Pressure Switch Post by jonnycab on Apr 26th, 2008, 8:18pm The pressure switch is supposed to stop the engine revs droping or engine stalling when the steering is on full lock. I'd put a new (or second hand) pressure switch in it. It should stop the leak as it has a seal & at least you'll know that there will be no chance of the engine stalling :) Is the wiring still hanging down ?....should be a 2 pin multiplug ;) |

Title: Re: Power Steering whats the Pressure Switch Post by ChrisF on Apr 27th, 2008, 10:20am Thanks Jonny I'm a little worried that the bolt has been forced in cos its not exactly 'square'. I've got another pipe on an old Granny I might just replace it with that, its got no place for a pressure switch though. |

Title: Re: Power Steering whats the Pressure Switch Post by sector-9 on Apr 27th, 2008, 11:16pm Fit a pressure switch if you want to put it back to factory spec, but not all of the Scorps had one fitted so there's no harm done if you don't get one. However, as the MOT man pointed out, any leaks in the power steering system is a failure - that's exactly what mine failed on! As long as you've got some way of stopping the leak then it'll pass (on PAS at least), whether that be using Ford's originally intended parts, or an old bolt... Darren |
