Ive had this problem for a while now but thought that it'll be best if i got to the bottom of it.

When driving, no matter if cold/hot etc i get a slight jolt now and then, sometimes it wont happen for a journey, another time it will jolt more often. Ive got used to it over the months but its getting annoying now.

It happens if im in a too high gear for example going up a hill in 3 when i should be in 2, which is kind of understandable, but i could be doing 30 down a normal straight road and it'll jolt, my foot wont be on the clutch, or i may not have changed gear just then, it will just happen.

Any ideas? Someone mentioned a Throttle Control Sensor as a possible problem, but as i have NO IDEA about cars i havent a clue if that could be right.

Sounds like the coil packs could be breaking down under load or the HT leads are duff :)

My old Scorp did this 'jolt thing' every now & then, & it was the coil packs at fault :)

Is it a 2.3? Fault in the dual mass flywheel couldn't cause anything like that could it? Looking on the Mondeo forums it's filled with posts about Mk3's with broken DMF's, snatching and jolting at low revs and standing starts are all over there.

Could be a million things, you'd get more help if you can give a bit more info :)

I changed the HT leads about 7 months or so ago as i was having some problem with them. This problem came up about 3 months ago.

So you're running a 2.0 then? Is it an 8v or 16v? Looks like an 8v from your pic in the other thread.

Octavian says it gets a vac feed from the engine so if the little diaphragm perforated you'd get unmetered into the engine which would mess up the idle and maybe make it hesitate and lose some power. As he mentioned in his post it's called a vacuum motor, no idea about part code though. Ford dealer should be able to find it easy enough if you know where it comes from, at least they do at my local.

Easy enough to test, just pull the vac hose and plug the end of it, see if the engine runs ok without it. Just make sure you plug the end with something strong, there's a lot of suction in there. My Jag ate a couple of reams of duct tape when I was pulling hoses to find an air leak last year, it would make the mother of all vacuum cleaners ::)

Sorted....

I read on one of the repair lists or fault finders and i noticed 'Clean MAF' appeared frequently, (and the fact it seemed an easy job for a non mechanical person like myself) so i thought give it a go!

Removed, A good spray of Carb Cleaner and put back together and it seems to have worked, i also had a large plastic tube that had disconnected from another on the right hand side of the car (the tube goes to front of car and has an open end) so squeezed that back together.

After all these months, finally sorted!
