Title: Power steering stopped working tonight
Post by adwozere on May 22nd, 2008, 8:04pm
I have a 1996 Scorpio 2.3 DOHC Auto Estate, and the power steering just stopped working.
Could someone help me and point me in the right direction on what it could be how easy it would be to fix.
:'(

Thank you

adwozere.
Anything obvious ? Belt off,no fluid, any leaks in pipes or rack, any noises from pump before it stopped working.

Have you checked the fluid reservoir?. If it has lost fluid it should be easy to spot where it has gone, burst pipe etc. OR if no obvious location then it is probably being held in the steering rack gaiters. If the reservoir is full then the pump is the next thing to check.
THIS (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/steermanual.htm) may help.

Thanks for all your input.
The reservoir is full with no major leaks, the Belts ok, there was a squeeling noise before the pump packed up so I'm changing the pump.
Are the pumps the same from model to model (around the same age)?
