Title: hydralic lifters
Post by bob_b on Jun 1st, 2008, 2:24pm
has anyone had any problems with these? The ones I have just fitted are holding the valves open causing no compression to occur on cylinder 1

bob.
The only trouble I've had is that they wear out and get noisy. Is yours a 12v 2.9 by any chance ? Fords left the adjusters in when they fitted hydraulic tappets and a CAT on the Granada and subsequently the Scorpio. It may be possible that a previous owner has wound them in with the intention of quietening them.

i've had that on a 24v, used some lifters ive had sitting for a bit, the plunger part sticks, either open or closed, sounds like you may of got one stuck open, i soaked mine in petrol for day or so, giving it a good shake every now and then to try and free it

Hi
thanks for posts - the car is a 2.3 16v. have just renewed head gasket and the lifters are also new.  we've returned them to the suppliers as think they're faulty but prior to fitting them there was a problem with the no2 cylinder - now its no1 - it ran but misfired after being put back together following new h/g.
just like it back on road as "old" scorpio ran out of tax end of may and although running needs too much work for me to do to keep on road - fingers crossed but any other suggestions welcomed   ???

Is the problem definitely valves, and not still a gasket problem ? Do you have compression now on no 2 ? Have you made sure the pistons are OK by putting a drop of oil in the cylinder before testing ? Not too much though, bad for the CAT !
