Title: Help with power steering bleeding
Post by adwozere on Jun 5th, 2008, 12:16pm
I have just put a 2nd hand power steering pump on my Scorpio, but its still not working  ???
When I bleed the air out is it possible just to fill it up and turn the wheel from lock to lock then top up, or do I have to use a hand vacuum pump as is says here- http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/steering/PASbleed.pdf

Just turn the steering to the far right, then far left a few times, but not quite on full lock as this can damage the pump. Try to do it on grass or slightly raised to prevent flat spotting the tyres  ;)

This should purge the air out. If it doesn't, then try jacking the car up on one side, turn wheel left to right a few times, then drop this side & raise the other side & repeat procedure. This should remove any stubborn air locks  :)

I've got a brand new belt tensioner and have put it on, but I'm having troble getting the belt back on ???
The new belt tensioner looks like it has about 10mm of movment using the spring but I can't move it at all and I cant see any other pully wheel that has any adjustment on it, they all seem to be fixed.
Is the only adjustment on the belt tensioner, if so dose the belt have to be undone or tight.

HELP ???

Remember, don't be dismayed if you get a  " throbbing or pulsing sensation "  through the steering wheel after  you've finished your refit.

This is normal, for some reason unfathomed, the Scorpio takes a dislike to having its front wheels  raised off the ground,  and this is the by product.

It will  disappear after a few hours of driving.  8)
