Hi just found this hanging by the water filler original one is still screwed to the body what does this do and will it work were it is properly .dave sorry to asking all these questions.

The EDIS module (electronic distributorless ignition system) controls the power to the coils :)

I found one on one of my cars lying down rattling about behind the offside headlamp near the fan relay ! Did'nt seem to affect it's operation,would be nice to screw it in place though ! It is amazing what lash ups some people see as the norm !
