Title: SHE WORKS BUT!!!!!!!
Post by meatman on Jul 15th, 2008, 9:41am
had the top off the engine to sort out the wiring loom put everything back together new gaskets o rings etc.started to fill her with water and now i have a leak somewhere in the middle of the V
and on starting her up no strange noises apart from a sucking /blowing noise which i cant locate exactly its coming from the right side looking from the front of the engine
another stripdown appears to be the only solution anybody near carlisle please call round and kick me
it appears i broke my own rule "do it ,check it, check it again, then tighten up"
i have found out over the last few months that these 24v cosworths are very unforgiving beasts but i aint gonna be beaten

hi mate,

first off the leak,

did you make sure the funny little y piece that joins the 2 heads together was seated right, the small metal connector pipe can be very awkward to put back right

sencond

the sucking noise

when you put the intake back together did you break the little T connector that links the 2 intaks and throttal together? itss very fragile and snaps with the slighteds knock, that or the pipe its self has split on the join on the intakes

third

where abouts did you get your gasket kit from, ive been after one for months!

I'd be interested to hear where you got the gasket kit from also and the cost.

The inlet gaskets are about £4.00 each, about the same for the O rings for the coolant manifold, but last I checked the injector seals were on total back order, its quite rare that they can be re used. you can usually get away with the O rings on the manifold if you are carefull, lubricate them when re assembling. Air leaks are common, particularly from EGR pipework, and hose connectors under throttle body & breather pipes, & have a detrimental effect on how the engine runs.
Last time I needed one a complete engine gasket set, inc head bolts & all seals was a reasonable £200.00 from main agents.

gaskets were no problem as were the o rings ford main dealer in carlisle
the only part i had difficulty in sourcing was a gasket for the egr monitor in the end ive used firepaste which i dont think has done a good job

hi
got the water leak sorted was the jubilee clip round the rubber hose that comes through the right side of engine
however on starting her up this time i still have a sucking noise which lessens as the engine gets hot but does not go away completely
also when you switch the car off and the engine stops there is a sucking noise sounds like its coming from the very front of engine
and the idle is still hit and miss
regards
