Title: Re: lambda of ebay Post by Jonnycab on Jul 18th, 2008, 12:59am If all the wires are the same colour then it may well be okay, but if the wires are a different colour then it may not be compatible :) I bought a new lamda last year off Ebay & the wires were a different colour. The seller assured me that if I followed the instructions then it would be fine :-/ It wasn't & I ended up sending it back to the seller & luckily got a full refund. So ended up buying one from the local motor factors with the right colour coded wires for £50.00 & it's been fine ever since :D From memory the white wires are for heating, the black for the signal & the grey for earth :) |

Title: Re: lambda of ebay Post by Highlander on Jul 18th, 2008, 9:54am Sensors in the exhaust system to monitor the emissions. Lambda sensors produces a voltage signal that recognises the amount of unburned oxygen in the exhaust. An oxygen sensor is essentially a battery that generates its own voltage. When hot (at least 250 degrees c.), the zirconium dioxide element in the sensor's tip produces a voltage that varies according to the amount of oxygen in the exhaust compared to the ambient oxygen level in the outside air. The greater the difference, the higher the sensor's output voltage. Sensor output ranges from approx 0.2 volts (lean) to 0.8 volts (rich). The lambda sensor's output voltage should not remain constant, however. It should flip-flop back and forth from rich to lean as the PCM increases and then decreases the amount of petrol injected into the intake manifold. Every time the voltage reverses itself and goes from high to low or vice versa, it's called a "cross count." A good O2 sensor on an injection system should fluctuate from rich to lean about 1 per second. If the number of cross counts is lower than this, it tells you the O2 sensor is getting sluggish and needs to be replaced. Most lambda sensors will cycle from rich to lean in about 50 to 100 milliseconds, and from lean to rich in 75 to 150 milliseconds. This is referred to as the "transition" time. If the O2 sensor is taking significantly longer to reverse readings, this too is an indication that it is getting sluggish and may need to be replaced. |

Title: Re: lambda of ebay Post by Tompion on Jul 23rd, 2008, 9:52pm According to the Gendan site it should be a planar type on the 2.3 (although that doesn’t necessarily mean other types won’t do): http://www.gendan.co.uk/oxygen_lambda_sensors_Ford_Scorpio.html |

Title: Re: lambda of ebay Post by big_neil on Jul 25th, 2008, 9:13pm we had a volkswagen in the tother day for an mot and it failed miserably on emissions,a new lambda was fitted (not vag supplied as they couldn,t supply at the time) and it was as bad as ever ,waited till the next day and the new vag unit was fitted, result?it sailed thro the emissions with ease.there is a moral there somewhere! |
