Title: Dials flicking round again & again!
Post by dannynic on Aug 7th, 2008, 1:27pm
I have a problem in that my dials keep resetting. After reading the main site and various other postings I decided to change the battery. Great for a couple of weeks until it started doing it again. Checked the alternator voltage and that was on about 13.8V until you put everthing on such as heated front screen, rear screen and heater then it dropped to 12.1V. Low I thought so I changed the alternator. Now at idle with nothing on it is at 14.2V and at about 13.0V with everthing on. Thought that was alot better but the dials still do flick round. Probably 1 in 10 times so slightly better. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help in advance. Danny.

Check the main power cables are connected tight on the alternator and the starter and any earth straps!

I had similar after fitting a new starter motor a few years back, the nut holding the spanner had not tightened the nut enough ;D ;)

Hi Danny
whats the rating on the battery - is it up to spec?

Had similar prob a while ago. Now using Motorcraft with 71AH, 680 CCA, 125RC (for a Galaxy) which meets the spec.

Mine's doing again as well. I reckon there must be something draining the battery slightly. When it gets 'low' enough the dials do their thing and whip round. Annoying coz I like to know how many MPG I'm NOT doing!
