Title: MOT Fail.
Post by jabbacar on Sep 20th, 2008, 8:54pm
Hi,
A recent mot test resulted in the following failures;
1,N/Side front suspension bush deteriated resulting in excessive movement,
2, N/side rear wheel bearing has excessive play,
I would be pleased if you could inform me in any way  of  the availability of the parts involved and also of any info.as to the repairs involved
The car by the way is a '95 16valve estate,
Your thoughts and advice greatly appreciated, Thanks J.C.

Front suspension bushes are available from Ford - about £8 for the front bush, £12 for the rear bush. Not difficult to change.
Rear wheel bearing kits are available for about £30 from a motor factor or £60 from Ford.
You will need to get a new hub nut from Ford if you don't buy the genuine kit as the aftermarket kits don't have the correct nut - about £6 for the nut. Would not recommend re-using the old nut.
Again, not difficult to do although you will need a large torque wrench to do the nut up to the correct torque. This assumes the problem is just the bearing and not excessive wear on the hub itself.

If the front suspension (wishbone) bush has gone then it can be replaced if you've got the means to remove the old one & replace it....heavy duty press ?

But going by what I've experienced with these cars then it ain't worth replacing, because if you do spend money on a new front bush then you can bet your gonads that it won't be long before the balljoint fails & then you'll have to buy a new wishbone, which incidently comes with the front bush already fitted & costs about £110 from Ford (there is no pattern part).

The rear bush on the front wishbone (which is a totally separate part) can be bought from Ford & is about £16.00  :)

P.S....Ford have got their wishbone parts listing the wrong way around when it comes to the Scorpio....They list the rear bush as the front bush & vice versa  ::)

Yep, the front wishbone bush  ( which must be really broken to exhibit excess  play !! )  isn't   really  an option for  home replacement, if  it's  shot then the bottom balljoint  will  not be far behind .

Best to replace the whole wishbone c. £100 from FPUK.
