Title: Interior lights not working and other odd problem Post by Savvy on Sep 27th, 2008, 2:55pm My interior lights do not seem to work. The 20 second delay and map reading ones this is. Front and rear. I've checked all releveant fuses and all seem to be ok. Not sure if related but when I push my ashtray in hard, it turns my side lights on ??? ??? when I let go they go off! Anyone any ideas? |

Title: Re: Interior lights not working and other odd prob Post by mijfife on Sep 29th, 2008, 11:58pm It might be related to the power saver relay in the fuse box next to the battery. I had issues with my interior lights and a bridge of wire had been put between two of the terminals on the power saver relay to make things work, unfortunately this also drained the battery if the car sat for a couple of days :( I changed the fusebox to solve another problem and it fixed the interior lights too! Cheers Jim |

Title: Re: Interior lights not working and other odd prob Post by Savvy on Sep 30th, 2008, 9:09am how hard is it to change the fuse box? |

Title: Re: Interior lights not working and other odd prob Post by mijfife on Sep 30th, 2008, 5:35pm The one next to the battery is a doddle, There's one or two bolts hold it in (if I remember correctly) and once it's unbolted, the wiring is very accessible to unplug. I took the other side fuse box from the spares car and even with the entire dash out, it was a real pain trying to undo the multi plugs, god knows how you'd get them back in, here's hoping I never have to try ;D I've just checked the old power saver relay to see which terminals were bridged, just in case you want to give that a try to see if the interior lights work. It's the yellow relay and terminals 87 & 86 were linked together with a bit of wire. As I said earlier, this used to drain the battery but might be worth a quick try to see if that's the problem area. Cheers Jim |

Title: Re: Interior lights not working and other odd prob Post by Snoopy on Oct 2nd, 2008, 10:46am The ashtray is shorting out on the cigar lighter when you push it in. It IS possible to turn this around to prevent this happening with a bit of fiddling also have to replaced fuse 36 the power saver one worth a try. If its the timer module I have a spare one somewhere but that is as far as I know on the front bult head. |
||
Title: Re: Interior lights not working and other odd prob Post by Savvy on Oct 2nd, 2008, 10:53am that's interesting. i've also noticed the ashtray light is permanantly on, i can see it through the ashtray when it's dark. does the cigar lighter have it's own independent fuse? or does another circuit share this fuse? I could try removing the fuse for the cigar lighter to prevent it shorting and then try the lights. if the timer module is broken, would this prevent the interior lights functioning altogether? is it easy to replace? |
||
Title: Re: Interior lights not working and other odd prob Post by Snoopy on Oct 2nd, 2008, 7:03pm Yes the cigar lighter is on PERMANENT LIVE fuse 43 in the aux fuse box covers seats and cigar |

Title: Re: Interior lights not working and other odd prob Post by Savvy on Oct 3rd, 2008, 10:24am so would have to disconnect the battery first to be safe? would the timer module prevent the interior lights working altogether if broken? |

Title: Re: Interior lights not working and other odd prob Post by scorpio_man on Oct 3rd, 2008, 12:20pm hi there have you ran the timer diagnostic yet? see the fault finder for details. hth |

Title: Re: Interior lights not working and other odd prob Post by Savvy on Oct 7th, 2008, 11:26am tried the timer diagnostic and it beeped at the right times and in the right places! what else can i do? is a right pain at night! |

Title: Re: Interior lights not working and other odd prob Post by Savvy on Oct 10th, 2008, 7:34pm fixed one problem. removed the ashtray completely today, turns out the light for the ashtry had fallen out the holder and when the ashtray was pushed back far enough it was making contact with something else and turning on the side lights, odd but it's now resolved. however im at a real loss as to why the interior lights don't work. have done all the fault finding recommended, checked fuses and bulbs but no result yet. they certainly used to work up to about 3 weeks ago and nothing was done to the car in that time, which is a shame cos then at least i might have had a clue where to look |

Title: Re: Interior lights not working and other odd prob Post by Snoopy on Oct 10th, 2008, 8:12pm Have you had the multi pin plugs off the doors recently? If so make sure they are located back properly. Another one is the multi pin plug on the drivers side fuse box? Worth checking all of those . specially the fuse box one as it can be located one row of pins out gives all sorts of strange problems.. |

Title: Re: Interior lights not working and other odd prob Post by Savvy on Jan 27th, 2009, 8:43am Randomly (again) they stopped working, shortly after I posted though. However, this morning, I turned my headlights on and voila, all my interior lights came on ??? ??? Then 2 minutes later, went off and wouldn't come on again. So, excited to think I knew the problem now, I pulled over to have a fiddle ;D Removed the headlight switch, disconnected the plug, had a look at the block and the pins, looked good, reconnected and we now have fully functional lights again! Surprised it's related to the headlight switch, but hopefully if someone searches for this problem in future, this will help! ding dong |

Title: Re: Interior lights not working and other odd prob Post by Scorpio_Mike on Jan 27th, 2009, 9:38am Headlight switch can go 'a bit temperamental' ::) If yours has started to 'play up' it may be worth getting hold of a spare one for when it does decide to give up completely. Be aware that there are 2 different types of headlight switch - depends if your Scorpio has front fog lights or not. Switch for cars without front fog lights has a BLUE plastic outer, switch for cars with front foglights has BLACK plastic outer. |
