Title: ball joints track control arm
Post by ghia-cossie on Sep 28th, 2008, 11:22am
hello everyone,

can someone tell me if you can REPLACE the balljoints in the lower track control arm, (or whatever you call it, in dutch its called FUSEEKOGEL)

problem is that mine are worn out, so i replaced them with some spares but they were also wornl.

the computer at my local partshop tells me there are replacements but i cant find a way to get te old ones out and i think these things are 1 part with the arm, in that case they will cost me 210euros ex vat  ::)

If you mean the track rod ball joint that screws into the steering rack, then as far as I know, if it's worn then the whole track rod has to be replaced.

If you mean the track rod ends that join to the hub, then these are replacable & are available as pattern parts for about £15 each  :)

Hope this helps  :)

nope, excuse for my english.

i mean the balljoint thats atached to the hub , the lower triangle.

me and my mate were brainstorming to make the triangles adjustable , so the cambers can be adjusted, with a ball joint from another type and brand of car with sleeves.

i keep you guys updated

The ball joint in the track control arms(wishbones)are unfortunately unservicable, they are part of the arm.No pattern parts are available, but Ford dealers still do them for about £98.00 each.

my meaning about those unserviceable joints : crappy , rubbish , they certainly diddnt know what research was in 1995. excuses me guys i dont mean it the way i wrote it but its slightly frustrating to know that when a ball joint is worn you have to replace a complete arm, where others are can replace an 15pound part.

But the good news is that i found 2 fresh arms for a low price, the old ones will be modified as i discribed above.

btw: lately i`ve bought a leather interior , resprayd my rimms and fitted them with new tires, and made my own double exhaust system, each side 1 oem look pipe.
i will post pictures soon.

thanks everyone.

Pleased you sorted it ! other cars have similar silly arrangements,Fiat for instance, where you throw the whole arm away. All part of a cunning plan to,as we say in England,"rip you off".

Jaguar  made their replacement wishbone bushes obsolete on the S type but the whole wishbone including bushes is still available at around £400 :)

Sounds like I'll be cutting the ball joints off mine and TIG welding a rose joint on when mine eventually fail then  8)

that is exactly what i do with my old ones, PU bushes and a replaceable ball joint wich will be adjustable, than the car will handle a lot better because you can set the cambers.
