Hi All

new owner with auto transmission problem.

when car is cold jumps all over the place but ok when it gets hot, also issue with speedo well below actual speed - website says it could be VSS, but wondered if anyone had any other ideas.

advise please geoff

Hi Geoff, welcome to the insane world of Scorpio ownership.

Firstly clean the MAF - dirty MAF can cause all sorts of problems with the autobox.
Secondly check the colour of the fluid - should be cherry pink but can go a pale brown - should NOT smell burnt or have any bits in it - bad news if it has.
What's the mileage ?

Does sound like the VSS playing up. Please give us the engine size PLEASE .

engine size is 2.0 ultima

fluid is reddy brown, no black bits.

Hi, how much is the speedo out? is it a constant difference or is it variable?
How do you know its out? have you measured it with satnav?

Just wondering if the previous owner has maybe fitted another gearbox or even another diff.

The speedo problem will be affecting your gearbox too although it does sound like it may need an oil and filter change, is the gearbox oil level ok and have you checked it the correct way?

speedo seems 20/30 mph below constant although warms up gets better

having new vss fitted tomorow so hopefuly will clear also take your advice re oil and filter change
