Hi have a 2.3 scorpio is it proper that the engine creates alot of heat.but temp reading normal do these engines run hot. dave

Dave.
There is usually a pretty hot rush when you lift the bonnet,particularly when using the aircon.If water temp is normal I wouldn't worry.

cheers mate for that but i havnt got acon pump missing. ill keep on cooking the bacon on it. lol!

In my experience, i've never owned or run a car where the engine bay gets as hot as the 2300 scorp - its phenominal ! ! ! ( and also the reason so many of they have broken engine bay looms )

Its also why the exhaust manifolds crack...

I think most of the heat comes from the cat as it is mounted almost upright under the bulkhead and gets VERY hot.

Recommend checking engine temp via the instrument reset codes.

Ideal value is around 125 at cruise, irrespective of ouside temp.

If consistently falls below 80 (High Temp) at idle\in traffic consider fitting new thermostat (30 min easy job & £cheap).

In my experience, the thermostat on Scorps is prone to getting stuck leading to overheating or overcooling.

David, my 2.3 engine temp was running at unbelievably warm temp, to the point where it was becoming dangereous! {}
I changed the thermostat but still the same.
I also noticed that i was ~~loosing~~ using some coolant.
I read the recent water loss thread on here and followed the procedure to eliminate an air-locked system.
Ran the engine for 10mins with heater on and cap off and the expansion bottle went ballastic!
After another 5mins of Mount Vesuvius, all was calm.
Topped up with anti-freeze and engine now runs at a cooler temp 8)
