Title: Clock and temperature sender!
Post by AdamS on Oct 1st, 2008, 12:54pm
Hi all,

I have a couple of small queries to keep my trusty beast in top fettle! Firstly, the clock. My illumination bulb has blown, so before I start sticking screwdriver blades down the side of it, can someone please confirm whether the clock assembly does just snap in and out of the fascia?

Secondly, my rather random temperature gauge now reads minimum all the time and I suspect the sender unit. However, after reading through past topics on the subject, I'm still not really sure where this is located in the 2.3 engine. if someone could explain please, I'd be very grateful.

Thanks very much in advance!

Incidentally (he said, tempting fate...) the car is still running sweetly, reliably and cheaply at 10 years old and with 146,000 on the clock, despite the impending threat of slowly spreading corrosion. Exactly what does it take to break one of these things?!!

Adam.

The temp guage sender is in the side of the thermostat housing & it is the one with the square multiplug

Before you remove it, give it a spray with plenty of WD40 or similar & let it soak into the thread, as they can get quite tight & corroded in & you may end up pulling out the brass nut that it screws into. If this happens, then your in trouble  :)

as jon has said, take care putting the new sender in. it only goes in 2/3 of the way.

re the clock.... http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/fasciabulbs.htm

Bloody 'ell!  :o Good job I didn't try prising the clock out then.....

Thanks for the advice, all - I shall set aside an afternoon to do all those silly little jobs that have piled up.

Adam.

Adam, one member did get fed up with the rigmarole of removing the dash to get the clock out for bulb replacement and, once it was out, drilled a couple of holes in the fascia in order to secure it from the front so that it was easily removable next time. It is a matter of personal choice but, frankly, done carefully, it seemed to be a reasonable mod. Maybe the 'creator' will see the thread and put up a picture.
