Title: Internal Rear View Mirror
Post by Tony_E on Oct 8th, 2008, 9:23pm
Hi Guys,

My rear view mirror has gone funny like its got a liquid across it and its blurry if i turn it on little bubbles go through the liquid which look nice but dont help me to see out of it any ideas on what i can do please?

also when cold gearbox will not engage reverse and as we are now getting colder thought i should sort it out, when i put it into reverse it either jumps makes a bang then stalls or just does nothing and when i press the accelorator it goes no where

Any advice greatly appreciated

Thank You

Tony

Hi Tony, I would remove your mirror ASAP, the liquid can leak and will melt through whatever it drips on.

Cant be repaired i'm afraid, see if you can pick up one second hand.

Gearbox... have you checked the oil level by the correct method as shown on the site?

If its not a 12v or a Diesel try cleaning the MAF, next step might be a gearbox oil and filter chenge if that doesnt help

About the gearbox not engaging reverse when it's cold.....mine does the same in cold weather, but is fine in warm weather & has been like it for a couple of years but hasn't got any worse.

Symptoms are.....start car on cold morning & it takes about 5 -10 seconds to engage reverse. When it does, it thumps in & engine feels like it's running on 2 cylinders with a strong smell of petrol. Try to pull away & it feels like your towing a ton of bricks....

As far as I know & have read, it is a problem with a sticking internal autobox solenoid. I'm not entirely sure how to replace it but I think it can be accessed if the autobox sump is dropped. I was thinking about changing the ATF soon, so might look into changing the solenoid at the same time.

I find that when it happens then restarting the car 2 or 3 times seems to overcome the problem  :)
