Title: By pass hose to thermostat on a Cosworth
Post by catalina on Oct 20th, 2008, 7:13pm
Am getting desperate. I need a by pass hose to the thermostat on a Cosworth. I have tried everywhere, including the "Parts wanted" section of this Forum.

Ford Part No. is 7334646.

Pipe is about 25cm long. 22mm dia one end, 32mm dia other end.

The 22mm section is more or less straight over the first 17cm. Then it cants right and them backwards about 30 degrees.

Can anyone help please?

Cheers

John

I am told that its on backorder and that even after detailed search there is no unit available any where. Have been waiting 4 weeks now and am going to try to a few pieces that I can join together. Not keen on this solution tho'.

Cheers

That sounds about right! That hose is a pain, and d**ned awkward to fit,if both ends were the same size it would be simpler.Someone somewhere has got one lying on the shelf, but they don't know you need it.
              Keep tryin !

this is where I found mine a couple of months ago, they were very helpful - give em a ring they may have another or may be able to look on their system to see who has got one. I seem to remember that is how I came across them

@ catalina have a look at this, I know it would mean getting the housing but it must have the possibillity to adapt to fit the scorp using a heater hose up through the head and onto the small connector, if you see what I mean, anyway here it is : -

Why not make up a pipe with some silicon hose and plumbing fittings?  That's what I did on my Westfield:-

You can get all kinds of shapes of hoses and plumbing fittings that reduce down from 32mm>22mm, 22mm>15mm etc.  Even 45deg angles.

Catalina,
I have the same problem - I took the advice of Amigafan and joined a straight 22mm hose to a 32mm piece which had a 45deg bend- I joined them with a copper 45deg elbow in 22mm. I used a sleeve of 22 mm hose inside the 32mm to make the join - it's a very close fit - only just room for the two jubilee clips but it's been working for two weeks so far ! if it blows the join I have worked out how to make a better job next time. How did you get on with yours ?  Malc.

Managed to get a used one from Baz, through this Forum. Hope to receive it tomorrow.

Ford seem to be incapable of tracing a new one. Hope your solution works!! ::)

So now you've got to put it all together - I have had a few probs with air leaks - I ended up putting new seals on the fuel rail and new O rings on the joint at the back of the Inlet manifold and I had to replace the two little vaccuum pipes on the little T piece - also I stripped the thread on the jubilee clip down between the heads and its a thin 9mm one - a normal 12 mm dosen't fit comfortably - so hope you can avoid all these things - good luck !! Malc.

Finally sorted my motor - turns out that when I replaced the fuel rails - awkward tight fit - one of the seals fell off and this caused quite an air leak which upset the tickover - all humming now, and so far the fabricated hose is ok!
