i am getting a noise like a cranking noise from the rear passenger wheel i think the cv joint is  gone   is there a giude for doing this job

try packing it out with some cv grease first. mine lasted nearly 5 years by doing this.

Yep, definately sounds like the CV joint.

thanks  for the verification  that it is the cv  i went to the local motor factor  got a new cv joint  going to change the cv after lunch  looks an easy job  cost £32 but when i take the old one back i get a fiver back  priced the wheel bearings while i got the cv  there £27 each  not bad  thats my next job  when i do the rear discs and pads   fogot to mention  in my earlier post about my steering rack leak i got a new track rod and shaft forthe nearside of the stearing rack  now i dont have a leak
track rod end a fiver  newball joint shaft from ford £43
beats £400 for new rack

update the cv joint i got  was no use as the bolt holes wher for m8 bolts the bolts on the cv  joint on the car is has bigger holes for the bolts  and the m8 bolts were far to small  so can anyone  tell me what cv joint i should get  ford scorpio 2.5 tdi estate

The V6s and diesels all have the thicker bolts.

cheers gozz it says on the guide that the 2.0 2.3 and 2.5 tdi are the same and 2.9 and 24v are both the same   i think it needs to be corrected so othere members dont make the same mistake

http://www.carparts-direct.co.uk/cv_joints_detail.cfm show 2.0, 2.3 & 2.5TDi as using the same part and a different part for all V6's  ???
Check with your FMD - they should be able to advise which part is correct from the chassis number.
