Title: WONT START ok now
Post by brownie on Nov 8th, 2008, 8:52pm
I was putting the radio back in when i dropped a live on to a black three fuses went. So i went in the car to get some came back in the car put them in. It took me three time to put the code in the radio went to start the car it wouldn't start. I think the black wire the live dropped on went to the black alarm box inside the car. The fuse boxes are all dry and new two weeks ago.  2.5TD MANUAL

Hello and welcome :)

When you say it wont start, does it crank and not fire? crank and nearly fire or does nothing happen at all?

Flat battery maybe ?

Have you got the  " flicking needles syndrome"  when the key is in the ignition on position ?

Check the MAIN POWER FUSES  in the AUX fuse BOX they are BIG ones rated at 80/60amps if one or more of those have blown then a lot of electrics are out of action.

From memory I think there are 4 of them.

which black box did the wire touch?
have you got ignition lights?
does the heater plug light come on and go off?
How about if you VERY CAREFULLY short the starter terminals with the ignition on? can you start it that way?
could it be the starter is jammed? stick it in gear and try and rock it.

Make sure its not just the ignition switch, starter or the solenoid before we get into the electrics

you've not trapped a cable putting the radio back in or stripped the insulation off one of the cables, theres a lot of sharp bits of metal behind the dash? ????
