i cant get any a.m stations on my stereo(i listen to talksport), all the f.m ones work fine, im a bit puzzled could it be something to do with ariel ?(but why would fm work if its ariel?)
any ideas ? cheers in advance

AM signals are picked up by a solenoid type aerial within the head unit itself. It could indicate an internal wiring failure of the unit.  :)

when you say unit , do you mean the thing on the roof?
would i still have the same problem if i bought a new stereo?

By unit, I mean inside the stereo itself.

AM signals are of a lower frequency and higher amplitude and longer wavelength than FM signals so require a small coil as an antenna.

I new stereo should solve it. I'm not sure on how you would go about eliminating the fault other than having the stereo repaired or trying a different one.

But I'd bet some ££s it's the stereo itself.

It has always been my experience that I can receive FM signals through a rusty nail,but need a much longer aerial and even a signal amplifier to get AM,as I say this is my experience not radio expertise.
