Title: Trailer dashboard warning light Post by emcscott on Nov 21st, 2008, 11:36am I will soon be fitting a towing bracket and I would like to wire the direction indicators so that the dashboard warning light is in use - but I cannot see how Ford intend the connections to be made to use this light - if anyone knows i'd be glad to hear - thanks. |

Title: Re: Trailer dashboard warning light Post by scorpio_man on Nov 21st, 2008, 12:06pm hi there i've got some info about it somewhere; i'll need to look for it. iirc, it's done using a special relay that was available from ford (don't think you can get it now, not sure). you had to swap it for the direction/hazard relay under the steering cover. hth |

Title: Re: Trailer dashboard warning light Post by scorpio_man on Nov 21st, 2008, 12:38pm hi there copy of an email from 24 june 2003!!!! There is a wiring kit available for the Scorpio, 12S & 12N, it comes complete with 12S & 12N sockets, the 12S socket has a contact fitted so that when you insert the plug for towing the car rear fog lights are automatically disconnected. The trailer flashing indicator lamp is already fitted in the dashboard but you will have to replace the "plug in" Hazard warning relay on the steering column for the heavier duty model. Both harnesses are supplied and are easy to fit at the rear of the car, you merely disconnect the plugs at the rear light clusters and fit the interposing harness which is prewired with similar interposing plug and socket. The downside of the kit is the design date which is pre 2000, which means it does not take into account the changes in Caravan wiring, the ignition controlled charging/fridge relay is not included and one of the pins that should be wired on the 12S is obviously not included. The wiring at the back of the 12N and 12S sockets merely push in on prewired pins. If you have these fitted and any work is carried out at the back of the car (i.e. FMD's leaving the sockets hanging on the harness) they can obviously become disconnected and hence lose the caravan/trailer lights The 12S loom is supplied with additional cables to take a supply from the battery at the front of the car (mines a saloon), they were not long enough so I extended them and installed an additional cable for the caravan wiring. I've got all the Ford kit details some where, I believe it's the same kit as for the previous model Granada. hth |

Title: Re: Trailer dashboard warning light Post by emcscott on Nov 28th, 2008, 8:19pm Thanks for that - I only need one socket for the lights to tow my boat around - so it sounds as if all I need is the replacement relay and then tap into the existing light circuits with good old Scotch connectors - I'll let you know how I get on in the spring - when the water is a bit warmer ! |
