Title: 24v Autobox lost first gear
Post by Highlander on Nov 24th, 2008, 10:48pm
This weeks problem  ;D

My little sister borrowed a 24v today (yeah yeah i know!)

Anyway the story goes....

reversed off the main road into the drive to turn...

One of the slabs MAY have flipped up and hit something but not sure  }{

selected D and no drive... revved to 6000 then suddenly jumps into gear and takes off...

Stops in the middle of the road then only very slight drive, like torque convertor not locking up, slipping badly.

Its got enough to move it slowly on  the flat but a slight incline stops it.

Problems only in first, wont move off in 1st or D

no problem with 2nd

using it just now by putting it in D and selecting the ice setting (*) which starts it in second, changes gear up and down no problem.

So before I get underneath for a look any suggestions what it may be? ;D

Might it be electrical ? could it have damaged that little box on the selector ?.let's hope so(as against internals)  :-/

In this cold weather, mine (when started from cold) pulls away very sluggish in 1st gear, but is fine once it's warmed up a little  :)

As for it banging into gear, mine does this in reverse when cold & I think it's down to a sticking autobox solenoid.

Have you tried turning off the engine & then restarting it ?....this usually does the trick for mine  ;)

Hi,

Yeah, could be switch damage but also check for physical damage to wiring and also trans sump as it may have damaged a solenoid or valve block, failing that forward clutch or low gearset inside auto box  :'(

By selecting 2 you engage the second gear brake band so bypassing the elements engaged in 1st.

Like JC I've noticed this over last 3/4 months - about 3 times pulling out of a drive just after starting up cold and putting it straight into 'D' without going into 'R' at all - go to accelate into the road and all I get is high revs and slowly moving out, lift r foot and it drops into gear.  ???

Certainly gets the heart going when there's traffic bearing down on you  :o

Never happens when engine warm

Wonder - would scan on enhanced data pick it up?
