Title: Diverse heating problems with my 2.5 TD
Post by Lord_Bubu on Dec 6th, 2008, 3:33pm
Hi,

first of all, sorry for my poor technical English.

I own a 98 Scorpio ghia 2.5TD.
Today i changed the reservoir of the cooling water, beacuse the old one was leaking an i had to put in several litres of water every 3 or 4 days.

But that seemed to have worsened the problem. I put in 6 litres in the new reservoir (till max), but after about 10 miles the heat gauge was near max and steam came out of the ventilation (only the drivers side) and when I had a look the reservoir was empty again. So i put in more water an went home again.
The hoses to the reservoir are properly fitted and dont leak. The water is coming out of the AC drain holes...

Maybe this correlates to my second problem. Since a few months the air coming out of the ventilation is suddenly very hot. When turning the SATC on "off" a sound like "clonk" comes out of the dashbord and when turning the SATC on again the air flow is ice cold...

So your advise would really be appreciated, since i am able to change oil, a water reservoir and know how to use a volt meter, but am not really a mechanic.

Thanks from Germany,
Tim

you have a leaking heater matrix

If you connect both heater hoses together where they go through the bulkhead that will give you a temporary fix although you will have no heat in the car.

The dash has to be removed to replace the matrix, big job ;)

ouch, that's definitly too much to do for myself :(

Any guess, how much a garage would charge?

But why did the change of the water reservoir (which was leaky as well) make the problem so much worse?

Greetings,
Tim

IT could do as there is now a lot of pressure in the system. and as the header no longer leaks it will find any leaks in the system and it appears that you have a leak which from your description is in the heater matrix which is a big job .
