Title: Traction Light problems
Post by workshopboy on Dec 24th, 2008, 9:59pm
Hi all
Just purchased a 2.3 ultima estate with a blown engine. I have changed the motor and all is well...... Apart from the abs and traction lights on. I have scanned the car and code for N/S/F wheel sensor. have fitted new sensor and lights go out...But when driving normally the traction light is sometimes coming on and the throttle is solid. The car is not spinning any wheels but I can't  understand why the light is coming on now and again. Obiviously I have no driving history with the car as It was bought dead so I am a little blind as to what problems I have inherited. Everything else seems fine when the light decides to stay off gearbox changes smooth and abs works fine. this is my fist Ultima with traction so I'm a little lost. Many thanks and a merry christmas to you all

Check the connections to the rear ABS sensors - under the rear seat.
Check the rear ABS sensors are not excessively dirty or corroded.

Could possibly be a rear wheel bearing on its way out  :-/

Hi all
Checked the wiring and bearings today all ok.
Drove car again and light didnt come on for about 10 miles. then came on for about 2 mins throttle was solid. Pulled my foot off light went out and drove great for about 10 miles then cycle started again. ABS light is out all is fine in the driving dept and no codes. Can anyone shed some light?
Cheers
Andy

Did you raise the rear wheels off the ground to check the bearings?

What do you mean by the throttle is solid? Is it not allowing you to press it down?

I thought TC default was OFF   :-/

On my car you have to activate the switch to turn the dashboard light ON which surely means TC is ON  ???

Scorpio_Mike.
Mine don't have traction control, but my Transit does.If the light is on it means that I have switched it off.It defaults to on with light off next time it's started.

No, its ON as default, when you press the switch and the dash light comes on you've turned it off ;)

I stand corrected  :-[

Maybe I should have read the handbook first....does seem odd though that TC is ON when the light is OFF.

O/D is on when the O/D light is off :)

TC works same as ABS, when the light illuminates/flashes the system is operating unless you turn the TC off and the light comes on as a warning.

If default was off no one would remember to turn it on :)

Thank you all for your help and support. I have tracked it down to a twist in one rear tyre. I think its due to the fact that it's been standing a while and one tyre is out of shape. I have replaced the tyre and all is well.
Many thanks
Andy

sounds like a flat spot/bulge where the car has sat on the one spot for weeks.
