Hi all,

I have now got hold of a S/H Windscreen Wiper unit (inc motor) and I want to replace my old one (held together with a plastic tie (served me very well).

The only problem that I can see is the removal of the plastic grating covering the wipers. I cannot see how I can remove it without causing some serious damage?

The plastic fixings (plugs ect) do not lend themselves to be easily removed among other things...

I would be grateful if someone could give me an idea of how I can remove this plastic grating (so I can replace the wiper unit) witout having to buy another (as I can imagine how much that would cost from Fords)?

Hi I had this problem myself but quite clearly the plastic plugs have to be removed to access the holding screws and yes these will probably break when trying to remove, what I did was purchased a few of these from my local Ford dealer, they are normaly a shelf item and cost very little, so there does not rearly have to be a problem and good luck.

Normally with the rivets similar to the type it says break you can push the centre pin through and just pull the rivet out. But whether you can retrieve the pin I don't know, but it shouldn't be too hard to find a suitable pin.

In some instances with these type of fixings an ordinary plastic wall plug and a screw will solve the problem or even a self tapper. ;)
