Title: SCREEN WASHER PUMP
Post by wbph on Jan 9th, 2009, 5:08pm
Hello,

Got caught out today travelling down the M4 with all this salt and spray, the screen washers wouldn't work.

The car hasn't been used for a few days so I thought it might be frozen water in the tubes or the nozzles. Checked both out and are flexible, and seem clear.

As the wipers and the washers share the same fuze it wasn't that, and there wasn't any sound of the pump pushing the water up the pipe.

Location please of the pump so I can check that out. Please don't say I have to get on my hands and knees and go under the front somewhere !

lol are you serious??

You've checked the nozzles, pipes and fuses but cant find the pump?

Aim between the rubber pipes and the hole where you pour the screenwash into  ;)

The pipes often gunge up if washing up liquid has been used in the past but does sound like the pump or wiring

wbph.
The pump is pushed into the front of the reservoir behind the front bumper.Pull the wire off it and check for live when the washer button is pressed.Obviously the pump wont work in freezing weather without a strong solution of screenwash. It is a wise precaution to pull the pump off periodically and pull out the rubber filter and clean it,then run a hose through the reservoir with the pump out.

All resolved, it was frozen solid. As the temperature went up today so the washers started working again.
I only ever use water anyway and it had even frozen up into the top of the filler.
Lesson there then, get some screen washer !
