Title: Heater Cold - Air Lock?
Post by TomP on Jan 11th, 2009, 9:47pm
Scorpio 2.9 12v - No Air Con, No Climate Control

Drained radiator (by removing lower hose) and re-filled tank with new anti-freeze. Heater only blows out cold air, although engine temp guage does reach 'normal'.

I don't think the heater did blow out very hot air before but sure was a bit warmer.

Been reading on the forum about the heater matrix. What are the things to try before thinking about replacing the matrix?

Check that the matrix in & out pipes are the same hot temperature when the engine is up to normal running temperature. If the outlet is cold, then you either have an airlock or a blockage  :)

HI,

If it is the Climate Controlled type with the digital display the unit may need to be reset there is a guide how to do this in the fault finder section.

Regards Chris

Thanks for replies.

My car does not have air-con or climate control.

Sorry for such a basic question but where exactly are the matrix in and out pipes?

If the outlet is cold, what is the recommended way for clearing the air-lock or blockage?

Tom.
They go through the bulkhead on the offside near the back of the engine, awkward if you need to remove em.You can sometimes force the coolant through the matrix by leaving the filler cap off and giving the engine three or four thousand revs,if you hold the pipes and rev it from the engine you will feel the coolant come through as the pipes warm up.
