Title: ECU programing
Post by ivan on Jan 20th, 2009, 11:21am
Hi all, great great great great web page...learn a lot from it...thanks to all who make it happen...THAT GOES FOR YOU

Ok these are my problemzzzzz :

1. I`m not a mechanic and my car was at mechanics shops for 6 months (yea we have lousy, crapy, nutsy mechanics)
2. My engine overheated during ride and stoped...since then my car won`t start.
3. I finally found good mechanic and he resolved some issues regarding that but he noticed that there is some water on passengers floor, beneath glove compartment...he took ECU and water was dripping from it...when he opened it was corroded so I wen`t for search throu internet for that part. I found 1 in country near mine but numbers don`t match.
Number of my cars ECU is attached(96GB-12A650-KA  SITE) and the 1 I found is 95GB-12A650-HD EXAM.
My mechanic sad that he need few hours to check(1&1/2 day has passed) if he can program that ECU that I found...he got all the software and computer equipment for that(he says).

The ECU come from same car model, different production year : Ford Scorpio 2,9L 24V Cosworth 1997. mine     1995 the 1 I found.

So can you tell me the difference beetwen that two ECU?

THAT IS THE EMAIL I SENT TO http://ecu-testing.com/contact_us.html

AND REPLY FROM THEM
Hi there,
The one from the 1997 vehicle will be PATS system immobilised so will not work on the 1995 car or the othey way around.

AND ME AGAIN
We got new key( 3 pieces). Is there any difference with those 2 ECU in electronics components that might be the reason why the new(used) one can`t be programed or is it just a PATS system that is the problem but with new keys PATS system shouldn`t be a problem ?!?!?!?

DO YOU SCORPIO LOVERS HAVE ANY IDEA ABOUT THIS!?!

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

O yea let me introduce my self:
Ivan from Zagreb,Croatia, cars history: 2,0 1988.(2 years)2,4 1991(2 years) 2,9 cosworth 1997. (bought in May,2008. in defect since August 5th;OMG that long has passed) company car Citroen Berlingo 1,9 d .

I JUST WANNA DRIVE MY SCORPIO...I`M NOT ASKING MUCH!!!!!

Scorpio till I die...Kind regards from cold Croatia...Sorry we kicked you from EURO 08 :-))))

I think what the problem between the two is that the later 97 ECU has the PATS incorporated into it & the older 95 one doesn't. If you open the two up you will see that the newer one has more components inside.

Not sure if the newer one can be re-programmed (someone else might know), but if you can get hold of another ECU from the same year as your car, then as far as I know, it should work. I'm sure someone on here will have a spare one they can sell you  :)

Is the ECU actually blown ?....there has been incidences in the past (on this site) where the ECU has been dried out with a hair dryer & has continued to work again.

Hope this helps & welcome to the site  :)

P.S....the water is probably coming in from under the battery tray because of corrosion  :)

Thanks for welcome!!!

Car is at mechanic shops 150 km from where I am,and the 1 I found thru internet is located 300 km from me so it`s bit hard for me to compare them :-/...he says it`s not working,it`s all corroded inside.

Gonna check forum for the same number of ECU

Thanks Jonny

Sorry Ivan, I think I mis-read your first post. I thought you had a 95 model, but  on reading it again it appears you have a 97 model with the PATS incorporated into the ECU.....Is this right ?

If you do have the 97 model, then I'm affraid swapping the ECU with another of the same year (97) won't work as the PATS has to be re-programmed.

If you had a 95 model (without PATS in ECU) then it is possible to replace the ECU without re-programming.

Sorry if I caused any confusion (now I'm getting confused  ::)) & good luck  :)

NP Jonny

So you say that 95 model car with module 95GB-12A650-HD EXAM that I found  will work in my car(97 model with module 96GB-12A650-KA  SITE) it just need to be re-programed...

I only got 1 key when i bought the car and  mechanic sad that he need 3 keys to programm the ECU. We got now 3 new keys.

I am confused, tired and think my head will explode...information overload heheheheh

Every1 tells me to sell that car as soon u repair it...NO f**kIN WAY...THATS MY SCORPIO,FOOLS

Thanks for all your help !!!!!!!

Martin it will be great if u got it !!!!

No, the 95 ECU will not work in your car as it does not have the PATS inside it. The earlier Scorpios had the PATS located elsewhere in the car, so it wasn't a problem replacing the ECU in the earlier cars with another.

The later 97 onwards Scorpios had the PATS inside the ECU, this makes it a little more complicated in replacing it. The PATS may have to be re-programmed.

Reading these pages may help......http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/pats.htm & http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/alarmsys.htm

I'm going to leave this topic now, as I'm getting a little out of my depth  ::)... Hopefully someone with more knowledge of this subject will be able to advise you better  :)

Good Luck  ;)

Back again  ;).....Okay, I've thought about this long & hard tonight & may have come up with a solution that may save you alot of hassle & money, because re-programming isn't cheap.

If you get another ECU (with PATS) that is for a cossie & has exactly the same part number as yours, make sure you get the original red master key with it, as it won't be any good without it  :)

Obviously the red key from the new ECU won't start your car as the key pattern is different. So take the red master key & your old ignition key to a local Ford dealer etc. Get them to cut a couple of new programmable keys using your old ignition key pattern. Then ask them to read the red key & programme those new keys from it.

In theory, I can't see why this wouldn't work, but it would be nice for someone else on here to confirm it....or not  :)

Ok I got new info... PATS is not installed in ECU...mechanic says it`s best to find ECU with same number...so I think I`ll do that and keep searching for it...

Thanks for all your help Jonny
