Hi all, house was lit up light an airfield last night as my headlights started coming on and off all by themselves. Thought I had seen an earlier thread for this problem but I can't find it.
Changed the light switch today but no change....fusebox is nice and dry so I'm stumped?
Any ideas....cheers team. ???

This happened to me on my previous 24V. I had to remove the fuses to get them to go off! (10 and 11? from memory) However when the fuses were put back in the next day the problem had gone, never to return.

Changed all the relays in the fuse box for known good ones and re-seated all the standard fuses to make sure of a good conection. Reconnected the battery and all was well for about 10 minutes then.....headlamps back on full with no switch control.
Appreciate any thoughts on this one as I think I've tried everything and I'm getting to the end of my tether...whatever that is....cheers. ???

hi there

sounds like dampness in the fuse box.

remember it's made up of layers, so can look dry at first glance.

Thanks Scorpio_man....do you know how the main fusebox comes out for a proper examination...cant seem to find a link for removal...thanks. ???

not sure where the link has went too! ;D

this is what it looks like apart.

to get it out, you need to move some of the carpet from the foot well and reach up and undo the small bolts. the plugs are all different sizes, so they can't be mixed up.

Crikey!!!! had to remove the soundproofing which seems to have been glued to the underscuttle before I could access the fusebox bolts...what a job....upside down for 20 minutes with my head stuck in the footwell. It's times like these I wonder why I ever became a Scorpie!!!
Dried everything out and put it all back...now headlights don't work at all...neither do front sidelights or the indicators????
Held dash button in to access codes and got this....

There is a list of codes somewhere on the site,Simmo or another of the old hands will put you on to it.As is always asked,are you very sure that you have replaced the multiplug on the front of the fusebox ? it is easy to get one row out leading to strange happenings !

The list of codes is HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/instreset.htm) BUT Gozz is right to suggest that before you go further check the large mutiplug connector. You MUST locate the LUGS on the connector into the slots on the case BEFORE you push it down OR it will go in one row of pins out and a classic sign is the one you describe but you will have rear lights. The saying on here, oft repeated, is "If the plug goes on easily the first time you try it 'aint on right" ;D

Hi all....small respite from the white stuff....plug connected correctly and all relays in place....no blown fuses but............STILL NO HEADLIGHTS or front side lights or direction indicators.
Rear lights are OK except no brake lights either??? Man I am really confused now.
Is it possible for one or more of the layers in the fuse box to have failed???
I can't think of anything else now...has anyone had this prob before??? cheers. ??? ???

Well I was WRONG!!!...that pesky multiplug was the problem....so hard to fit properly but once in everything is working fine again.....one to remember...another greatdesign success from Ford..thanks to all who helped. ;D

the same thing happend to me ,,it looked ok but it was not sitting right ,,arrrrr,,
