Title: 2 issues, Rumble and Misfire
Post by danny-mack on Jan 31st, 2009, 12:02pm
Hi Guru's, I'm fighting the urge not to sell the car, I always seem to when something goes wrong with a car instead of fixing it (silly I know). My 2.3 auto has a rumble from underneath (wheels or somewhere) but quite often only when it is cold (just starting out on a new journey) and at around 40 to 60mph. I think it is the rubber donut thing in the drive shaft that needs replacing. Is this major or should I just live with it?

The other issue is that under partial throttle, the engine randomly misfires. Plant the throttle or take foot off and it goes away. 70mph it is ok mainly part throttle at around 50mph it gets a bit jerky. I think this is the fuel cut plug on top of the rocker cover. As the insulation around the wire has corroded. I have put some insulation tape around which fixed it for a short period. Any suggestions? I think the whole lume is quite expencive.

Or do I sell it as it is and get a cheap little diesel?

Regards
Dan

The sensor at the top of the rocker cover is the camshaft position sensor & controls the timing of the injectors so could be causing the misfire etc.
Make sure its wire hasn't got trapped under the cover for the coils.

The price of the loom can be seen here:

Cheers for that. I might take a look at the EGR as that has been mentionedon this site as a possible cause for a misfire.

i've removed the cover so the loom is not being pinched/trapped anywhere.

The misfire could also be the coil packs starting to break down under load  :)
