Title: TD Missing glow plug ??? Post by PeteB on Feb 10th, 2009, 5:51pm Ok heres an odd one over the past couple of months my car has struggled to start sometimes I put this down to the electrics going dodgy. However after replacing both fuse boxes now and again it seems to fail to start. Upon examing my glow plugs I find that one is missing and in its place appears to be one thats sheared off, but should the car be able to start at all with this missing ??? I had her serviced last July and have only just noticed seems to me like someone has wrecked it and left it :( nationwide autocentre will definately be getting a call from me in the morning... Pete |

Post by wumpster on Feb 10th, 2009, 6:31pm they will start on 3 glow plugs mine did it just missed for a few seconds on initial startup on very cold mornings has it got compression on that cylinder or can you hear it poping when turning it over if its poping then there is no compression on that cylinder have you checked the fuel shutoff valve on the pump to make sure its opening to allow fuel to the pump also try the fuel primer on the side where the pump is give it a pump to just to the pump is ok and there is fuel getting up to the pump |

Title: Re: TD Missing glow plug ??? Post by PeteB on Feb 10th, 2009, 6:34pm Oh no its fine just sometimes requires a jump as if the start kills the battery :( almost as if the plugs are demanding more power than they actually need. Petee |

Title: Re: TD Missing glow plug ??? Post by martin_rowe on Feb 11th, 2009, 8:46am 1 inop glow plug means a 25% loss in cold start capability, all you need is another 1 to fail & it may not start from cold. |
