Title: catalytic converter casing corroded
Post by miike on Feb 16th, 2009, 8:23pm
Looking underneath the car, the lower half of the casing of one of the forward boxes of my exhaust/catalytic converter was hanging down!  I had not noticed it when driving, I've just wired it up to stop it catching a speed bump.  Does anyone know what my repair/replacement options might be?

R reg 2.3 ultima.

Is it just the heat shield hanging down or the whole of the box?????

If it's just the heat shield don't worry about it - it wont affect the functioning of the cat - in fact, replacement cats don't have heat shields.

You might want to make a more durable repair though - something like a big jubilee clip - to stop it falling off and catching something on the underside of the car on it's way past.

Couple of wire coathangers should do the trick...if you want to keep it and have not yet taken the advice from GOZZ  ;D

Thanks for the replies.
It's just the heat shield, I will wire it up with slightly more care, all the rst of the system seems fine on further inspection.
