Title: Interior Lights/screen heaters Post by mindofitsown on Mar 10th, 2009, 1:21pm Hi All, Interior lights no longer work when any door is opened but manual switching is ok as is map lights. Kerb and door edge lights work fine. Have checked fuses and all is well. At the same time, BOTH screen heater switches no longer light up (orange led) when switched on. Any ideas anyone? Regards |

Title: Re: Interior Lights/screen heaters Post by Tompion on Mar 10th, 2009, 1:33pm Not sure if it would give your symptoms, but might be worth checking fuse 36 power saver in the auxiliary fuse box as they are linked to the power saver. Dave |

Title: Re: Interior Lights/screen heaters Post by mindofitsown on Mar 10th, 2009, 6:07pm I feel its got something to do with the Timer Module (since lights are on timer and so are screen heaters) but the timed boot light and timed wiper function ok :( |

Title: Re: Interior Lights/screen heaters Post by mindofitsown on Mar 11th, 2009, 3:58pm AHA! I've solved it! Just dis-connected the battery and re-connected it, now it works. Quite why it mis-functioned in the first place I'll never know. Just one new problem now.......I expected the alarm to come on when re-connecting but it didn't. What's more the PATS LED on dashboard does nothing (off under all circumstances). Any ideas? Regards |

Title: Re: Interior Lights/screen heaters Post by Tompion on Mar 12th, 2009, 11:52am In this thread it mentions relay 5 is for interior light: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=admin4;action=display;num=1236696111;start=15#23 According to my handbook it is heated rear screen, but just checked on my car & it is interior light - but whether there's also any link to the rear screen I don't know. When I pulled the relay it did the same as yours - interior lights worked manualy but not with door switch. Dave |

Title: Re: Interior Lights/screen heaters Post by mindofitsown on Mar 14th, 2009, 12:12pm Dave, Many thanks. It is interesting to learn about the handbook error (never noticed it before!). I had assumed that the interior lights were driven directly by the timer module (via power transistors) but from what you have pointed out, the transistor only drives R5 coil. Despite dicovering the existence of R5 it could not have been at fault in my particular case since both screen heaters went down at the same time and these have different relays (which check out ok). The only common factor was the timer module hardware/software which explains why disconnecting the battery etc. worked. But thanks for pointing R5 out, it will be useful information in future and today I will correct my handbook! |
