Title: Shudder and smoke when starts - help
Post by AlanC on Apr 17th, 2009, 1:13pm
Hi, I've got an M Reg 2.0ltr Scorpio that I bought about 8 months ago now. It's been running absolutely fine until this morning when I started it to go to work.

The first indication that something was wrong was that the whole car started shuddering a little before I'd even moved off. I popped the hood and saw that the whole engine block appeared to be shuddering and there was a little white smoke coming out of the centre of it somewhere (the normal sounds of the engine seemed to be a lot deeper and shaky).

I have no idea what's wrong and haven't switched it on since but could anyone give me any suggestions as to what it might be or what to expect before I wander over to my local garage?

Many thanks.

hi there

could be a few things.

one of the coil packs is broken.
cracked exhaust manifold.
poor 'fuel cut off' loom under the spark plug/coil pack cover.

i'd have a look at these first. the coil pack and loom are easy. just take the cover off (10x 10mm bolts).

Welcome to the site :)

Does it have aircon?

Siezed aircon compressor?

Try it with the aircon turned off, remember it will be on as the default when you first start the car even though the light doesnt show.
