Title: Battery terminals :- conversion from 'posts' Post by Waglet on Apr 22nd, 2009, 11:12am G'day. Got the Scorp back after its non starting probs. (sender in fuel pump). Now I'm getting that pesky dial reset on start up, grrhh. Gonna bite the bullet and get a 650CCA battery. Can someone advise where I can get the conversion 'bit' that will allows connection to posts from the "L" shape terminals? I know I've seen it on here somewhere ??? Thanks |

I'll tell you at the next meet but in essence it is about re-registering a car which previously had a 'privileged plate. ;D |

Title: Re: Battery terminals :- conversion from 'posts' Post by pinto on Apr 22nd, 2009, 10:12pm Scorp needs an 097 battery - available pretty much anywhere from Fords to Halfords, prices ranging from £40 to £110. There are a greater range of round post batteries, for which convertor terminals can be bought from independant motor factors for around £6 a pair :) |

Title: Re: Battery terminals :- conversion from 'posts' Post by homer2themax on Apr 22nd, 2009, 10:37pm I bought a new battery for my mk3, 097 as I recall with round posts and as pinto says terminals only cost me £6 for the pair. £15 isn't steep, it's nigh on vertical! |

Title: Re: Battery terminals :- conversion from 'posts' Post by pinto on Apr 22nd, 2009, 10:39pm Round post equivilent of the 097 is the 096 :) |

Off topic but it was actually registered as an S reg, then put on a private plate and when the private plate was removed in 2001, DVLA put a Y reg on it for reasons known only to themselves! |

Title: Re: Battery terminals :- conversion from 'posts' Post by Waglet on Apr 23rd, 2009, 8:49am I reckon my "S" reg is still looking superb, apart from the rear wheel arches which will need doing soon. All Scorps are now worth £2K after yesterdays budget. ;D Thanks for all the 'battery tips'. |

No they are not - you have to have owned the car BEFORE the scrappage scheme announcement. If you bought a Scorp for £200 tomorrow you couldn't trade it in - hence it'll still be worth £200. And who owns a 10yr old car that would even consider buying a NEW car with the associated depreciation? |

Title: Re: Battery terminals :- conversion from 'posts' Post by Jonnycab on Apr 23rd, 2009, 10:30am Back onto batteries ;), I converted my terminals to round post 3 years ago, simply because round post batteries seemed to be in more plentiful supply & cheaper than square post ones. I've currently got a type 100 round post in my Scorp that has been going strong for a couple of years now, & paid about £60 for it I seem to remember :) |

Apparently a lot of people in Germany ;) "The German scheme's success has been largely put down to its simplicity. Following its introduction earlier this year, it instantly attracted a host of buyers, some 85% of the total, who had never bought a new car before". I currently have 13 vehicles over 10 years old, anyone care for a new car? ;) I'll bet they need to have a current MOT to qualify though ;) |

Title: Re: Battery terminals :- conversion from 'posts' Post by scorpio_man on Apr 23rd, 2009, 4:07pm hi there iirc, the German scheme also covers car up to 1 year old. that changes things quite a bit. ;) |

I didn't buy post converters, I just bought a pair of round terminals like THESE (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brass-Car-Battery-Terminals-Pos-Neg-12v_W0QQitemZ120367838381QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item120367838381&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1689%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318) from the local motor factors, removed the square terminals from the leads (not by cutting the cable, but hacksawing the actual terminal along its length until it comes off the cable) then fitted the new round ones on :) |
