The Manual (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ccmanl.htm) is here. Check the brake switch and also make sure the cable is connected at the throttle linkage. It is only held on by a small pastic 'banjo' fitting and can come adrift particularly if you have been working/cleaning in that area.

brake switch deactivator is not fully open when brake pedal is untouched. Should it be like that?

I have to lift pedal to get it fully out

Problem isn't in pedal switch  ::)

I don't know if actuator is correctly working or not. How do I test it?

Am I right if I say VSS / it's connections can't be faulty because speedometer etc are working fine?

Have a read of Pages 28 and 29 Here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/handbook.htm) and make sure you are selecting correctly. I take it you have read my earlier (1) reply?. :)
A more detailed explanation as to how it works is Here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/speedcontrl/ccdescription.pdf) :)

thanks simmo, superb(as usual) explanation.ive never used a cruise control system before.the roads over here are either too short or too windy.the M1 is only about 40 miles long,if that.
im gonna take her onto the motorway and try it out.
does the dashboard light that indicates the c/c is on come on when the the switch is depressed even though your not moving.if it does mine is not working
thanks again simmo

The system only operates when you are doing over 19mph according to the second link I put up so no the light won't come on if you are stationary. :)  I personally thought the speed needed to be higher than that before it kicked in and in fact the handbook, see first link, says 25mph. ;)

does the cc use same vss as speedo ?

so if speedo does not work because of vss, cruise cant work and vice versa?

The relay for the cruise control is behind the glovebox (Green) but i dont actually know which fuse covers it..

Will have a look at an old loom and see if i can trace it back.

Try fuse 16 which seems to be the one shown on the wiring diagram. Fuse 14 also may play a part. ;)
Open up the pdf file HERE (http://cid-eb36f845ea9b8fb6.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/WIRING%20DIAGRAMS/SPEED%20CONTROL.pdf) and go to pages 1-6.

HEHE

It works. I don't know if there was any problem or fault at all. If faulty user not counted! CC engages when turned on from left side of steering wheel. AND then pressed + or - . Then cc light comes illuminated on left side of dash. Engaging is VERY unnoticeable  ;D
