Title: ballooning radiator
Post by a900one on Jun 14th, 2009, 7:29pm
I think my radiator has ballooned,  :- :'(it leaks as small bit on the drivers side and the top is not level I have not had time to check the bottem. Are the thermostats a pain to get hold of still, I think some people on here had to wait a long time.

Still available for £100!

My personal opinion is that the 24v radiators have a prodution flaw, fitting a 16v radiator and header tank seems to work fine without having to change the 24v stat

I have not had a problem with the temp of the engine, it comes up to normal and just stays there, and  it would indicate the thermostat is working ok.
Also I cant see why a faulty stat would make the rad bend as it appears to have done. I would agree with you Highlander it a fault with the rad . Ps its had a new header tank just after I bought it , is there a difference in header tanks. Next problem if I have it recored do I ask for a 24v core or a  16v.

Yep, 24v header tank isnt a problem itself, it has an extra outlet to the top of the 24v radiator so if you fit a 16v or 12v you either need to block it off or fit the two outlet header tank.

I and a few other have done this and so far there have been no problems, (mines run nearly fours years with a 16v rad now)

I wouldnt get a recore, you can pick up NEW 16v rads very cheaply, check ebay..none on just now but they come on regularly
