Title: 24v Exhaust Bracket - MOT Post by Nunnspoet on Jul 24th, 2009, 8:27am :) My 24 valve red Estate failed the MOT last week - Perished front brake hoses. Got them replaced at Kwick fit, 96Gbp. but worth it as they gave me a quote and then had to replace the front n/s pipe. Brakes really sharp now as they renewed the brake fluid. Failed on the rusted out Exhaust support bracket situated just aft of the flexible exhaust hoses. It is shaped a bit like a w with (rusted) straps over the loops. "Easy" I thought :). Easy to get off but Ford wanted 74ish Gbp PER END PIECE. I was/am stunned and so were the technicans. SCRAPPAGE HIKE OR WHAT!! 160ish Gbp inc. VAT for 2 loopy clamps. That was going to really hurt and put the mockers on my Hol down in Cornwall. 160squiddies off my fuel money, not going to happen >:( After a bit of advice recieved. Sent her in without the bracket ;). PASSED MOT. The exhaust is still secure without this pesky Bkt so they could not fail the car on the state of the exhaust.. So off to Cornwall for my hol's today with a smile on my face 8) and a Cossie which passed the emmissions absolutly brilliantly. So no need for you pay huge hiked up prices for this Bkt. I am sure that any reputable Exhaust specialist will fabricate, or have, the straps at a reasonable price. Happy days folks Mike ;D 8) 8) |

Title: Re: 24v Exhaust Bracket - MOT Post by Nunnspoet on Aug 9th, 2009, 9:22am :) Just got back from Cornwall. Been without a pc or any contact with anybody except by 'phone, so I'm playing "catch-up. Yes please Highlander for as much as the car may not need this item I do like to have my cars as was if possible so please let me know how much etc. and thank you very much. Over the last 2 weeks I've done 1250ish miles all over Cornwall in my red Cossie Estate and she behaved faultlessly. perfect in fact :) 8) 8). On the way down to Truro she ran at 27.2ish MPG and only dropped to 23.6 MPG after a long time dribbling around miles of back roads. A real pleasure to drive in all circumstances. And Oh Boy does she shift when asked 8) ::) much to the suprise of many. A great driving holiday thanks Mike :) |
