Title: Re: heater blower switch Post by Simmo on Jul 25th, 2009, 9:26pm I can't answer the precise question BUT there is a known problem, similar to yours, in cars fitted with Air Con,as opposed to climate control. The details are HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/acthermalfuse.htm) so it may be worth a check. ;) |

Title: Re: heater blower switch Post by gozz on Jul 25th, 2009, 11:10pm 197. Do you mean the dashboard switch ? if so cars with climate control don't have one as such, but a control for the automatic module. The unit to which Simmo refers is a simple rheostat motor control fitted into the top of the evaporator housing, and is a regular source of problems. GOZZ. |

Title: Re: heater blower switch Post by scorpio197 on Jul 26th, 2009, 11:07am thanks for the reply ,I got a new resister from FMD but still have the same problem ,in fact I got a second new one because I thought the first was faulty ,The new ones are much larger and it is not easy to fit them into the housing ,you have to squeeze the resister coils a bit to get the unit into the housing ,but anyway same problem ,works on 1 and 3 but had to disconect the wire for setting 2 because it started to smoke /short .This makes me think it could be the dashboard switch at fault .but the only switch I have spare I took out of a 2 litre executive that did not have aircon I just needed to know if the switch was the same ...regards david |

Title: Re: heater blower switch Post by gozz on Jul 26th, 2009, 12:50pm 197. The three positions are the same as cars with no aircon at all,as is the rheostat, however the aircon would need the push in to switch the compressor on. I would be looking for a shorting wire between the switch and rheostat first. GOZZ. |

Would you happen to know the operating temp of the thermal fuse? I have the same problem 1 & 2 not working but 3 is fine. Shorted the thermal fuse (which was missing) & blower works fine. Only thing was the coils starting getting very very hot after about 30 seconds. Alternativly, if someone has the complete unit for sale from a breaker, I'd be happy to buy one. |

Title: Re: heater blower switch Post by Snoopy on Jul 26th, 2009, 5:14pm the fix for the termal switch is HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/acthermalfuse.htm) Really easy to fix It relys on the air flow past it to keep it cool . |

Yep, I've already read that, but I need to know what rating fuse I need to use. I can get my hands on fuses rated from 110 up to 239. |

Well its deffo not the thermal fuse if it works on 1 and 3 so its got to be the switch contacts or the wire onto the module Or even the middle coil itself you will have to meter it out http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/images/thermalfuse2_small.jpg I think its volt meter out and test power from switch to module and go from there |
