i seem to have a problem when i am stationry in my car the temp rises veryquickly, but when i am moving its fine the only way i can keep it from overheating is to turn on the ac this brings it down a bit, as any body got any idears, dave

Fan not working?...fuse....relay??.

presume fan is working, thats the only way turning on a/c will bring temp down ie turns on fan, if fan was inop then a/c would make engine hotter because of the extra load, check fan switch.

Could be the engine temperature sensor under reading.
The sensor for the gauge would show high, but the fan wouldn’t come on, but the fan would come on with AC.

I don’t know where the sensors are on the Cossie, but I assume you have enough coolant in the system to cover the engine temp sensor.

When you say "nearly overheating", do you mean that the gauge goes a little bit higher than when normal running? Does the engine actually overheat?

This seemed to happen to me in long traffic queues even in winter, so I checked coolant (perfect condition) and reservoir (level normal) and the operation of the fans (normal) and all hoses. As with you, running the CC did marginally reduce temperature, as did not running it but switching to max heat and high speed blower from all facia vents.

For other reasons I decided to change the thermostat and some hoses but this made no difference to the indicated temperature in a queue.

According to a friend of mine, who is a Ford diagnostics engineer, there is no problem as this should happen anyway. There is an outside chance that one of the 2 temperature sensors is faulty - the one that reads to the gauge - but they do seem pretty reliable.
