hi there

your battery is low on power. normally we would say get a new battery, but i'd just run your car for a while to charge it back up.

re you problem with the needle being stuck. as you start the engine, thump the dash at the same time. this should do the trick.

if not, you'll need to take the clocks out.

Check the fault finder page: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/faultfinds.htm

Suggests upcoming alternator failure or battery failure. Try this:

Start the engine
Hold reset button until beep
Press shortly a few times on the reset button until battery voltage comes on the trip display.  Take it for a spin, and check what it reports. It should give a continuous reading that should be 13.5-13.8 typically.
Next time you start it will flicker again and fall back probably at the same time.

You can actually remove the screws above the instrument cluster that hold the dash then the clear plastic front on the instrument cluster and pull it just far enough out to gain access to the needles with a thin piece of wire ;)

Although holding the trip switch for 5 secs then turning the key and thumping the top of the dash always works for me :)
