Title: No cruise control Post by steve_500uk on Sep 11th, 2009, 6:44pm I have recently pick up my second Scorpio, it is a 2.0l Ultima, everything works as it should apart from the cruise control, it does not even light up on the dash when pressing the button on the steering wheel. Is there a fuse or relay for this i should be looking for? |

Title: Re: No cruise control Post by firebug on Sep 11th, 2009, 7:15pm Hi, There is a relay for CC, R37 green behind the glove compartment, next to the yellow one for AC. But do check if you have the CC pump in place as I've seen a few cars sold with CC steering wheel that was swapped at some point but no CC mechanics }{ |

Title: Re: No cruise control Post by scorpio_man on Sep 11th, 2009, 8:40pm hi there the traction control has a button on the centre consol. does the horn work? if no t/c and horn NOT working, then it might be a fuse. next thing to check is all the brake/clutch switches. hth |

Title: Re: No cruise control Post by steve_500uk on Sep 11th, 2009, 8:52pm No it hasn't got traction control then, yes the horn works. |

Oi, TIS calls it the actuator, though for me and all my mechanic mates it was always called the pump, as it's called differently by different manufactures. Sorry if that confused anyone, though I can't see a reason for a tone like that Snoopy, that's no way to talk to people. UPDATE. I have just read this :o and you have a PM. I suggest you read it. When we need advice from you as to how to speak to people we'll be sure to ask. Don't hold your breath. Simmo |

Title: Re: No cruise control Post by tonyboy on Sep 11th, 2009, 11:24pm I'm sure Snoopy wasn't being rude, but it is nice to use proper terms instead of "slang" mechanic terms, for the simpltons like me who know nothing about mechanics so we don't get confused when fault finding a problem |

Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Simmo on Sep 11th, 2009, 11:39pm Steve. One thing to check is that the cable from the CC unit is actually attached to the throttle linkage. It is only held by a plastic 'banjo' fitting and can easily become detached, particularly if you have been working in that area. You will see the bowden cable coming from the unit behind the fos headlamp to the throttle so just make sure it is connected. ;) |

Title: Re: No cruise control Post by gozz on Sep 11th, 2009, 11:54pm Firebug. Does your 'handle' portray your actions ? come along, pump ? you may as well call the engine the gearbox ::) Surely a pump must pump something, fluid, air, gas ? GOZZ. |

Title: Re: No cruise control Post by drmousse on Sep 12th, 2009, 12:17am sorry but maybe all of you would start helping people instead acting like a bunch of bossy kids pushing each other around and wasting peoples time. People come here for help and so far what I can see, they get arguments, and post saying 'i know how to help you but I won't for whatever reason'. In a situation like this one here a moderator should come around and just change one word to another or ask the user to do that and put an end to the whole thing. As far as I'm concerned we can call things whatever we like and we often do, so what?! Make an announcement telling people to call things the way they are called in literature or describe them accurately enough so that there is no confusion or just give the thing a break... What kind of a forum is this? I've never seen things like this before on a forum... |

Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Simmo on Sep 12th, 2009, 7:41am Put simply up until YOUR arrival things have run very smoothly with just the odd intervention from the moderators none of whom need your advice as to how to run the site. If the forum does not suit you then the answer is simple. Don't use it. Unless you accept the 'status quo' that decision will not be yours. Your post is only still present to allow Admin to see its content. >:( Are you and Firebug related !! ??? |

Title: Re: No cruise control Post by steve_500uk on Sep 12th, 2009, 10:40am I have found out why there is no CC, there is NO RELAY someone has taken it out. Must get one and then try it. |

Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Jonnycab on Sep 12th, 2009, 3:03pm Hi Steve, have you checked the that the plunger on the CC switch is pulled all the way out & is touching the brake pedal ? :) |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Simmo on Sep 12th, 2009, 3:34pm Steve. I have just checked my Ultima which has working cruise control and there is only one yellow relay in the glove box compartment. According to the handbook R28 for the heater blower motor and relay 38 for the Air Compressor? are both yellow and both in that compartment. Relay 37,green, is for the Speed control system..as I said mine is ok and does NOT have that relay there nor any sign of a blank for one. R31 is blue and is for headlamp washers. I do not have headlamp washers fitted BUT there is an 'empty' socket which is blue. In short there is just one yellow relay and a 'blank' blue socket. This could indicate a change in production as the list also gives a Brown relay for the window trip switch in the drivers door but I am not aware of anyone actually locating one. |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by scorpio_man on Sep 12th, 2009, 3:40pm hi there iirc, the green one is only there if you have traction control. be very weary of putting relays in or adding to the scorpio's wiring systems. it doesn't take kindly to it! ;) hth |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Simmo on Sep 12th, 2009, 3:53pm That would make sense Andrew because mine does not have traction control. |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by steve_500uk on Sep 12th, 2009, 8:50pm That is exactly like mine there is only one yellow relay in the glove box compartment and there is an 'empty' socket which is blue. But I have not checked the that the plunger on the CC switch is pulled all the way out & is touching the brake pedal, I will look tomorrow. Steve |

Title: Re: No cruise control Post by gozz on Sep 12th, 2009, 9:17pm Simmo. It is the earlier cars that have the 'one touch down' brown relay in the drivers door, later ones have the big black modules. GOZZ. |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Simmo on Sep 13th, 2009, 7:25am Thanks Gozz. Do you mean the earlier Granadas as my car is N reg and that has a 'module' as you describe. Hope to catch up after the weekend. Mike ;) |

Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Tekno on Mar 25th, 2010, 11:36pm After washing car (No idea if related or just coincidence) my cruise control stopped working. Is there a fuse somewhere which might be blown? |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Tekno on Mar 26th, 2010, 11:35am Also horn doesnt work.. It's a fuse or it's circuit then? But which and where? |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Simmo on Mar 26th, 2010, 9:04pm The horn is controlled by Fuse No 9 and relay 10 in the main fusebox. Details of all relays and fuses are in the handbook. Pages 130-134. Here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/handbook.htm) :) |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Tekno on Mar 27th, 2010, 5:57am Fuse 9 was blown. Thank you! |

Title: Re: No cruise control Post by joe-satch on Mar 27th, 2010, 6:42am sorry for the delay in getting back to everyone about steves non working cc.....i meet up with steve at the halfway house meet,i had a look at the cc cable and it had come off the lever at the throttle body...i put it back on for steve..and on the way home he used the cc and his report to me was its now working as it should.. :)..so steves a happy man..thank you everyone..regards den. :). |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by steve_500uk on Mar 27th, 2010, 7:16am Indeed I was happy, except it keeps coming off again........... |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Simmo on Mar 27th, 2010, 11:04am Steve, If the connector at the throttle linkage is worn as mine was a small plastic cable tie should do the trick. Mine's been in place for a few years without further problem. ;) |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Tekno on Mar 31st, 2010, 2:05pm How does cruise control decrease speed in steep downhills? because sometimes it works properly, sometimes partially being very jerky and sometimes not at all. |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Tompion on Mar 31st, 2010, 2:20pm My cruise control doesn’t restrict speed on downhill sections, I’ve always assumed that’s how it should be. |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Mike Holmes on Mar 31st, 2010, 5:04pm That's a point, it's just working the throttle, not the brakes, though presumably it throttles back to keep the speed the same on slight down slopes but can't on steep hills! |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Tekno on Apr 1st, 2010, 11:06am Are you really sure? What then explains those problems I have. Sometimes in same downhill speed increases WAY over the limit. And sometimes it keeps in speed i have set cruise to. When I notice it's "braking", RPM needle goes down, approx 2000->1800 etc.. Maybe this Late 1998 has more clever software ? llol.. |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Mike Holmes on Apr 1st, 2010, 11:17am No I am not sure! ;D |
Title: Re: No cruise control Post by Tekno on Apr 1st, 2010, 12:31pm Maybe this explains better what I mean about speed not increasing in downhill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1wahKirpy0 Keep eye on both needles Video was recorded in this downhill: http://tinyurl.com/ye5n95e Don't you guys really have that behaviour? I'd like to disable it, heh. |
