Title: Very bad idle 12v
Post by Xeen on Sep 30th, 2009, 7:53pm
In the beginning the car a slight misfire sometimes on idle, but nothing more..
I changed Spark plugs NGK 1mm gap and it got worse... still only on idle.
Yesterday i changed the distrib.cap and rotor and it became very bad..
It stops when idling.. reving up and down.. calms down sometimes.
even in 80mph i can feel the car misfiring and have very uneven pull. the transmission cant really decide either.

What is happening? Where do i begin?

Sorry about my spelling.. come from sweden:)

Could possibly be a bad ignition coil  :)

Sounds to me as if one of the HT leads is starting to break up, by moving them to change plugs and distrib cap it could have made one of them worse.

I agree, check the main HT lead from the coil and also make sure that the top of the coil which is fixed to the inner nearside wing is clean and free from moisture and dirt, then check all the leads , as set of new ones from a motor factor will not break the bank, they are virtuallly the same as the granada ones.  t if that doesn't cure it try fitting the old rotor arm and see if things improve. but as suggested I suspect the leads are faulty after all those years of use..... bit like !!!!!!!!!!!!! ;D

HT leads are fairly new... i sat the old rotor back and it got better... as previous stage.. just bad idle idle now.

The bad idle is MOST likely down to the IACV as mentioned in previous posts about this very subject. It is well worth searching for some old posts about the bad idle and reading through.  If it was mine I would clean the IACV  Remeber the 12v does NOT have a MAF like the cars with the electronic gear boxes . Also worth checking for air leaks  have a read of THIS (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action=display;num=1242743180)
