Hi,

Very recently my wife's 2.3 Ultima (Facelift) mirror has stopped dipping when the reverse gear is engaged.

The electrics work fine and I am able to adjust the mirror using the switch on the drivers arm rest. Has anybody suffered this problem before? Any ideas of the cause?

The car is about to have some body work done including replacing the mirror, but since it does work when adjusted I don't think that will solve the problem

Could it be the reverse lamp swich,do your reversing lights work ?

Gozz,

I've checked the car this morning and the reversing lights do come on when reverse is engaged.

I did disconnect the mirror in the door the other week to check that the new one I've ordered will work. Did not want to spend cost of spraying the mirror, for it then not to work, but I did connect everything back up and it does work via the drivers switch.

I wonder if I have disturbed the wires making it dip when in reverse? :-/

Any body know which wires they are to check things out etc????

I will be fitting new mirror next weekend.

Its in the memory module for the seats if I remember correctly where the position is stored. could just be dirty contacts etc especiallyif it started after doing some work on it.

When I first got my car the mirror didn’t dip in reverse but still worked via the drivers switch.
It turned out to be one of the mirror plugs had separated.
Might be the same with yours.

Do earlier Ultima models have the reverse dipping mirror? Mine is March '95 and doesn't dip. I'm now wondering whether it has it and is not working.

I had a 96 P reg that worked OK.

Chris,

My 95 M reg Ultima reverse dip mirror has never worked but then, it doesn't have all the Ultima trim that the other half's 96 N Ultima does (ulitima badge near gear lever, chrome step plates etc.)

The insurance company have it as an Ultima on their database so maybe early ones don't have the dip mirror feature?

Not that this helps the OP as his wife's car does have the feauture....

Hello . According to this page the base spec for the 1997 ultima had the dipping mirror. But mines a 1996 and that has the dipping mirror http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/specifications.htm about 3/4 down the page....

I have an M Reg 2.9 Cosworth Ultima as well as my wife's 2.3 Ultima (Faceleft) and both have dipping mirror facility. The specifications list on this site is incorrect as the early car's did have this option and is in fact mentioned on some of the first reviews.

Mines an April 95 2.0 ultima and it has a working reverse dipping mirror.

I've replaced the mirror this weekend and the problem now seems to have gone away, so I guess it must have been a loose connection.
