Title: Replacing dipping Inside Mirror
Post by mondeoman on Nov 7th, 2009, 7:58pm

My rear view mirror is not dipping on my 2.9 24v when I bought the car and I have just got a replacement unit from Spike's Scorpios.

I have read that a few people have cracked their windscreens replacing the mirror so I was looking for some advice from people that have done this, so I don't make the same mistake.

How hard should I have to pull the mirror? Is their a way to lever the mirror of the bracket rather than just use brute force etc? :-/

Cheers,

I found that once you had removed the trim a very gentle tap with a small hammer usually did the trick( to break the seal).  Remember the mirror slides off towards the FRONT of the car NOT as stated in the service manual .you can find a write up o how to replace it HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/pcmirror.htm) if it helps.
Don't let it leak it makes a mess!

The crucial thing is to follow the forward slope of the screen. Usually a sharp tug keeping your knuckles aginst the screen will suffice BUT as Snoopy says if that fails just tap gently. Do NOT lever or pull towards the interior of the car. The bracket and mounting are a sliding fit held by a flat spring. If you look at the rear of the new mirror you will see what I mean.  ;)
