Title: boot.
Post by emptypockets on Nov 19th, 2009, 7:51pm
Hi again.

Many thanks for all the replies re my worrying fuel consumption.  I will be 'topping up' in a few days to get the result and will report back.
May I now enquire about the boot operation.  It will only open on the key which is no big deal, but when opened, it will not stay up. (story of my life).  It also sits not quite flush on one side.  I notice there are different positions for the springs to be located on and wonder if moving to another one of the settings would give more tension for it to remain in  the upright position.

Cheers

Someone on here used some strong cable ties to 'shorten' the springs, you may need to get into the boot to do it !

Snoopy's idea was the cable ties and thats the easiest method.

You CAN relocate the springs but they're a bit like women..

too much for one man and two cant get in!  ;D

Now stop listening to our Scottish Swiss Tony.  Get a hook from B&Q and a length of rope and pull the spring to the next hole.

Lengthening it will increase the tension..

I put a couple of strong cable ties on my springs, As said by snoopy, thats easy to do, and effective.......

I did mine one year at Harewood with a length of nylon rope and help from another strong person!! The only trouble with the cable ties is that they will eventually go brittle and will snap!!
