Title: Cossie Heater Question
Post by gerryw on Dec 5th, 2009, 8:43pm
Hi all,

I have a Scorpio Cossie with heater problems. So I have had a 2nd hand thermostat installed and also several weeks ago a 2nd hand Heater Matrix (both 2nd hand items in good working order).

But I cannot get any more than luke warm air coming from it no matter how long the drive.

The temp is working OK and everything else seems OK so does anybody have any idea what the problem is?

Regards
Gerryw ???

Gerry,

Are you based in Middlesbrough? I met someone recently in Halfords with 2.9 24v and he was after a thermostat?

Please tell me you didn't buy a second hand heater matrix & then pay someone to fit it  :o

New matrix's are about £110 from Ford, but considering the hassle they are to replace & the cost if someone else does it, then it's worth the payout for a new one.....fitting a second hand one will most likely leave you with another refitting bill when it turns out to only have half the flow volume through it that it should have.

When the engine is warmed up properly, check the in & out hoses to the matrix. They should both be too hot to hold for more than a few seconds. If the out pipe is cold or cooler than the in pipe, then that means the matrix is blocked/restricted.
You may have to turn on the heater fans fully to determine this.......the fans will quickly cool down a matrix that isn't letting through the volume of hot water that it should do  :)

Hi all,
Mondeoman, I'm based by Lpool?

Matt, thanks for the hint, it may wellbe that?

Jonnycab, yep, £25 for Matrix and £140 to fit it! I hope I blister my hands when I 'fondle' the In/Out heater pipes (ha ha). I would have done the job myself but the way the weather was going I would not have have finished it till the summer...?

If anyone has other ideas regards the Heater problem I would be grateful!

Regards
Gerryw

Unfortunately the cheapo Granada/Sierra ones don't fit. The end of them is too bulbous to fit through the centre aperture in the heater box....unless of course, you want to file down the aperture  :)

Yes but if technically possible one may want to do so, e.g. I spotted this summer new heater matrices on ebay for mk3/scorpio I for £20 including shipping if I recall it right.

Tekno had one fitted himself, if you read this, for which car was it intended for?

Hi TwinTurbo,

Can you enlighten me as to where these Heat Blend Damper Motors are please and how I go about checking them out?

Because, after spending alot of money on buying and getting the Matrix fitted, I would like to at least be able to defrost the icicles hanging off my nose when I'm driving  ???

Did you try this? Sometimes needs to be done a few times before it works.
