Title: 2.5td engine fault (noisy knoking sound)
Post by btl-norway on Dec 19th, 2009, 11:44pm
Hi

There was very cold (-20 C / -4F)  when I started my car today. The engine starts without problems, and idle nice, but when the engine started today, a knocking sound appeard. This car have run about 300 000km (190 00miles?) and it don't consume oil or water.

I drove home (about 15miles) with this problem. When loading the engine, the knockinsound was reduced, and when I took my feet off the throttlepedal, the sound come back.

I took of the valvecover, and found out that pushrod number 2 was not so tight. There was alitle play between the pushrod and valvelifter. I removed it, but it locked nice without any worns. I don't think that litle play should make this hard knocking noice.

Any suggestions?

No, the knocking sound is there when engine is warm too. I drove about 15-20 minutes with warm engine and the knocking sound. The termostat is new.
