Title: Losing air pressure in tyres
Post by TomP on Feb 26th, 2010, 1:19pm
I have a 2.9 12v estate with nice alloy wheels but I seem to have problems keeping the air pressure in the rear tyres. I can lose 10lbs in a couple of weeks, but it doesn't always happen. I don't use the car a lot. I've had the car for about 3 years and had new tyres last year, but still the same problem.

I've read that corrosion could be a cause, but the wheels are in really good condition, so don't think it's that. Also, as I haved new tyres, I don't suspect the valves are to blame.

Any ideas?

I would bet that you have the same issue as me in that when they replaced the tyres they didn't remove all the cr*p from the wheel rim where the tyre bead sits. Although you get a reasonable seal, the air can still bleed past and you lose air pressure.

Only solution is to take the tyre off and scrub the rim where it seats really cleann and then refit. potentially expensive when you take balancing into account
