I seem to be having problems with misted windows (windscreen, sides and rear) in my 2.9 12v estate. Even with the fans blowing full blast, the windows are very stubborn in clearing. I can feel air coming out of the vents and it is reasonably warm, so am a bit baffled.

Any ideas?

Check/replace the pollen filters. Here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cabinfilters.htm). If they are wet that is the likely cause. Also check your carpets, particularly the passenger footwell. If that is wet water is coming in through the bulkhead behind the battery. :)

Also check the drains here:

And check the recirculated air valve works. With the engine running check the valve rod moves when you turn on/off recirculated air. The valve is under the bonnet alongside the air box.
You can just see the valve in the 2nd picture under the arrow & partly removed in the 3rd picture here:

Quick question, as Pollen Filters seems the favourite, as I don't have air con, will I still have these?

Thanks again for the advice.

I've checked the pollen filters and they look OK.....a bit dirty but certainly no sign of dampness in the filters or where they sit. Is it posible that the pollen filters are still the cause of the misting up?

The carpets do not appear to be damp.

I don't have A/C so I guess I don't need to worry about the acdrain info.

Haven't found the recirculated air valve yet, will try again tomorrow.

The recirculation operating diaphragm to which Tompion refers is a small vacuum cylinder easily accessible and clearly seen just behind the engine bukhead beside the plastic heater housing on the drivers side.

Is the car the executive model ?
If my mind serves me right (unusual in itself)there is no aircon on that model therefore I don't think there is a recirculation option on the controls or a diaphragm beside the plastic heater housing.

Rodders.
The Granadas without aircon,which was most of them,had a recirculation flap controlled by the usual vacuum diaphragm,but operated by turning the fan speed knob to the left as in Scorpios with manual aircon,you had three speeds on fresh air and three on recirculate.

Hi Rodders. I have a 95, 12valve Saloon without a/c which steams up this time of year, Winterish, and this is, I think because of lots of condensation on the Boot lid which drips into the Boot area >:(

But your Scorpio is an Estate so not relevent to what I've just said. However I also have an Estate with a Tailgate which is not waterproof. After heavy rain or indeed a misty night there is an ingress of water which when I open the Tailgate floods into the rear high level brake light and then when I close the Tailgate empties itself onto the Luggage cover :(. I don't know exactly where it leaks but once again when the Weather improves and I have time I will investigate fully. This water in the Boot area does cause the the windows to steam up even in my car which has full a/c.

Just another thought (don't let my wife know, two thoughts a day she won't believe ;D). Check that the spare tyre well has all its bungs in and that the little drain holes in them are not blocked up.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll check things out first thing Saturday morning.

The rear estate windows certainly are misted up if left outside overnight, but the thing I don't understand is why when I am in the car driving do all the windows (screens and sides) get misted up and don't clear properly with the fans on??......I am continually having to wipe them with a cloth.

Re Exec without aircon, yes is same, turn fan switch left to recirculate

BTW Highlander was right new cabin filters are three in a box and yes Exec uses 'em. Behind is just a gaping void where the aircon matrix would otherwise be ;D
